The Stakes of Speaking Up

The first way we can understand how to defend marriage is to understand the threats presented in today's world. In the 2015 Supreme Court case, Obergefell v. Hodges, gay marriage was legalized. It's not like this in it of itself is a bad thing. After all, in a world where its people are entitled to their most basic civil rights, it should probably be expected that a gay couple can get married. What is the real issue, then?  It sure seems like supporters of man-woman marriage are on the wrong side of history. The issue isn't one of "gay people are evil." No. The real issue here is that men can't be mothers, nor can women be fathers. The Family: A Proclamation to the World states that "the family is ordained of God. How Can WE Affect Change?

Recently I had a conversation with my husband about a very important quote from President Thomas S. Monson of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He said: “He who gives money gives much; he who gives time gives more; but he who gives of himself gives all" (President Thomas S. Monson (2012). How often do we throw money at a problem or time at a problem in order to solve it? When we give of ourselves, however, we are giving our most valuable resource, we give our efforts, our caring, and our understanding, as well as money and time if necessary. In my own life, I've found that those who end up getting a divorce are often those who don't open up to their spouses in their marriage.
